Top Pore Clogging Ingredients
with CLEARSTEM Founders, Kayleigh & Danielle
Pores: We've all got them and while they serve a purpose in our bodies, sometimes they get clogged and can cause acne issues. When I chatted with skincare gurus and founders of CLEARSTEM, I was surprised to hear about some of the top pore-clogging ingredients. Marketing can be deceptive and you've got to be careful of ingredients, even things that are considered natural. Keep reading for a list of both natural and chemical pore-clogging ingredients.
Chemical pore-clogging ingredients
Sometimes products are labeled clean, organic, or all-natural, but they'll still have a lot of the filler agent in them that is unfortunately not great for your skin. While it may not be problematic for everyone, it can be for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to acne. Here are a few of the ingredients they suggest to avoid in cosmetics and skincare products:
-Ethylhexyl Palmitate
- Isopropyl Myristate
- Isopropyl Palmitate
- Acetylated Lanolin
- Ethoxylated Lanolin
Natural ingredients
Some of these ingredients may surprise you as you may think to yourself, well isn't this really healthy to eat? You're right on that but what might be good to eat may not necessarily be good for you topically. Our stomachs have a pH of about 1.5 or 2, which means it's really acidic & has the ability to break down those foods. On the other hand, our skin has a pH of about 5, so these ingredients don't get digested, they just sit on top of your skin and clog up your pores. Here are a few ingredients we recommend avoiding putting on your skin:
- Coconut Oil
- Avocado Oil
- Algae
- Jojoba Oil
- Kelp
- Olive Oil
- Shea Butter
- Seaweed
